The design of the “Willis” precision geared head lathe series is similar to the popular “Colchester” type lathes. They are available with a range of swings over the bed from 13”, 14”, 15”, 18”, 20” and 22”. All models feature a gap bed. The “Willis” precision geared head lathes have bed lengths (center distance) from 30”, 40”, 50”, 60”, 80”, 100”, and 120” between centers.
The “Norton” style universal gear box is standard on all models except the optionally available 1340. A “Matrix” mechanical multi-disc clutch is optional for the 1550, and standard on the 18” models and larger. All models feature a cam-lock spindle nose for convenient mounting of chucks and faceplates.
Infinitely variable speed versions are available for all sizes, equipped with an oversize “Yaskawa” AC digital inverter, providing full power throughout the speed ranges. With all of the features available and the quality in which they are built, “Willis” geared head lathes provide the greatest possible value and precision for the customer and their needs.
